How to Select a Project Area
In Aino, you can work with a selected project area or define location boundaries using polygons, buffers, or isochrones. This guide explains how to select an area for analysis.
Define a Project Area (Polygon)
Use a polygon when you want to analyze a custom-defined area.
Select the Polygon tool at the bottom of the screen.

Draw the area directly on the map. A new layer will be created on the right side of the screen.

Recommended Area Limits:
For heavy datasets (e.g. buildings)
Polygon size: up to 3.5 sq mi (8.5 km²)
Streets, POIs, and other lighter datasets
Polygon size: up to 35 sq mi (85 km²)
Ask AI to perform an analysis.
When typing your prompt, use
/to select the polygon you created.

Select a Single Location (Pin)
Use a pin when your analysis is centered around one specific location.
Select the Pin tool at the bottom of the screen.

Place the pin on the desired location.

Use AI to identify the research or catchment area around the pin.

Recommended Limits
Recommended Area Limits:
For heavy datasets (e.g. buildings)
Buffer: up to 1 mile radius (1.67 km)
Isochrone:
15 min walking
5 min driving
For lighter datasets
Buffer: up to 10 miles radius (16.7 km)
Isochrone:
30 min walking
10 min driving
Ask AI to perform an analysis.
When typing your prompt, use
/to select the generated area (buffer).
